Track your card spending in a Google Sheet from bank alerts
Turn your bank's card alerts into a spending log in a Google Sheet you own. Every purchase becomes a row as it happens, the same way every time.
Ask your AI assistant:
“TrackerHacker my spending”
How it works
- In Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini, type TrackerHacker my spending.
- The first time, your assistant asks you to connect TrackerHacker. Sign in with Google and tap Allow. That's your sign-up too: there's no separate account to make.
- Your assistant makes the sheet in your own Google Drive (the ready-made Transactions sheet) and tells you what's left to do.
- Turn on your bank's email alerts for card purchases (most banks offer them in their app), then forward them to your TrackerHacker address with a Gmail filter. Monzo, Starling, Mercury and Revolut Business send each transaction straight to the sheet instead, with no email.
- From then on TrackerHacker fills the sheet by itself, day and night, even when your assistant isn't open. Ask your assistant about it any time.
The sheet's columns
- Date: The day it happened, in your timezone.
- Merchant / Description: Who was paid or paid you, e.g. Trader Joe's
- Amount: -12.50 for money out, 12.50 for money in
- Currency: ISO code such as USD; blank means your usual currency.
- Account: Which card or account it was, e.g. "Visa 1234".
- Category: A spending category. Open text: each sheet template sets its own list of categories.
- Type: debit: money out; credit: money in; transfer: between your own accounts.
- Transaction status: planned: money you mean to spend, added ahead; pending: the bank hasn't settled it yet; posted: settled. Blank means posted.
- Bank reference: The bank's id for the transaction, when the message has one. The same on its pending and posted alerts, so a later alert updates the row.
Good to know
- Each bank words its emails differently. The first time an alert arrives, your assistant teaches TrackerHacker to read it, and every later one is read the same way.
- Your phone can ask you to pick a category for each new purchase, and the sheet's formulas do the totals.
- Ask for a monthly budget instead of a list and the sheet shows spending by category against your plan.
- Fixed rules called hacks write each row, not AI guesses, so the same email always makes the same row.
- TrackerHacker keeps none of your mail: each message is read once, and the rows live only in your own sheet.
- Free to start, with every personal feature.
